My wife, Judy and I chose to collect Royal Doulton for many reasons. The first of which is the many choices
that were open to us. Being an old company, originating in 1815, gave us a sense of reliability.
Its many products has persisted throughout the years. From the health industry, producing
sewer pipe in the fight of disease to the many categories of production in has been a champion.
Royal Doulton has world-wide distribution and a multitude of items produced has made it a
leader in the area of marketing. Talk about quality, well, it is on top of the list of leaders for
artistry and appeal to the public. It reaches out to the old as well as the young in its many
categories and price ranges. Of course I'm referring to the old Royal Doulton made in England.

If you plan on collecting Royal Doulton, it is essential that you purchase a reference book that
is available on the internet. In my opinion, Charlton publishes about the most complete texts
available. They have books that covers almost all the collectibles that Royal Doulton produced.
Charlton has accomplished a marvelous reference collection for the beginner to the advanced
collector. You must search for all the books and don't make a choice of what you want to collect
until you see them all.

Royal Doulton is catagorized in many series. The largest one is the "HN" series. Named after
Harry Nixon, a famous Royal Doulton artist. All items in the HN series are proceeded by the
initials "HN".

Once you buy the Charlton book of Figurines, you'll see what I mean. Each category lists the
figurines produced by name.

M - Series: Miniature figurines that have their counterparts in the HN series.

CL - Classique Series:

Age of Chivalry:
Age of Innocence:
Age of Jazz:
Art Deco:
Art is Life:
Bathers Collection:
Beggar's Opera:
Arnold Bennett:
British Sporting Heritage:
Character Scuptures (resin):

The list goes on and on. Buy the Book! Collecting isn't the same without it.

No, I don't work for Charlton, but I sure do appreciate what they've done.

Sincerely,

Harvey Liss
