Royal Doulton Bulldogs
Bulldogs with out the slobber can be had, but don't expect them cheap. An example in
good condition can range upwards of $1000 to $2500 or more depending on size and of
course condition. They come with hats, without hats, with regular caps, military caps
and trinity caps. With cigars, without cigars. With knapsacks and without knapsacks.
Get the idea? Did I forget to mention that they come in different sizes?

How old is my Bull Dog? I'm often asked this question and sometimes there is no accurate
answer. The rule of thumb that is most often used is: Add "27" to the number to the right
of the backstamp. The total is the year in which it was made. It is usually correct, except
when there is no number found to the right of the backstamp. In the example to the left
below, the number "15" is seen. Therefore adding "27" to "15" is "42". Most likely the item
in question was made in 1942. The item to the right has the number "10" to the right of the
backstamp. It was most likely made in 1937.

Bulldogs come in a variety of colors, but the problem I've encountered is that the red/ iron-
red glaze is easily damaged. It is easily scratched and is quite appearant on many bulldogs
on the market. This is a common problem and does ultimately effect the selling price of the
item, although not by much. It is similar to the problem of crazing, in that it is quite commonly
seen and if the piece is rare and otherwise in good condition, the price may be effected, but
minimally.

The following items are for the sophisticated collector. Since items such as these are rarly seen
on the market and the condition is usually worse, potential buyers must discount the condition
and choose from what is available. Most if not all defects and conditions are fully described.
Not all faults are visable in photos, due to glare and reflections.
